The annual Easter egg hunt...
Every year for as long as I can remember my mum has always arranged two Easter egg hunts for myself and my three siblings. The first is a simple go out in the garden and find a certain number of eggs each and for the second we are each given eight clues which lead to our egg. This may sound straight forward, however these clues are created by my mother who's thinking is often somewhat skewed. For example 'If you're cold use my nuggets to keep you warm' lead to a clue in the coal bunker, simple? No. We all went to the freezer in search of chicken nuggets...
So each year we all partake in these hunts and I am (of course) always the winner.
This year was no different. The first hunt began and I set off in the garden, almost immediately grabbing my 4 eggs and announcing my victory at the top of my lungs, then relaxing back into my spot on the sofa to finish my coffee as if nothing had even happened. Then the heated second hunt came. We set off and I found my first clue straight away. The next clue came, 'I will keep you warm' it was obviously the fire, I am often on the same wavelength as my mum. There I was, looking high and low, among all the paper and coal and logs but I could not find the clue. The frustration was building. I then went to the boiler thinking logically as that keeps you warm too, but nothing was there. As I ran out of the kitchen in order to search in every radiator in the house, I looked across at my sisters clues (she always comes last) and saw that she was on 4 already! This filled me with panic because I was still searching for clue number two and so I ran faster. I returned to the fire where I found the clue in the most obvious place. I continued neck and neck with my brother (who's equally as competitive) and it began to get violent. This was until I , Harriet Mills, found the eighth clue quicker than you could say 'Easter bunny' and for the 21st year running (yes I think I win as a new born too) I took the victory of the annual egg hunt. Now that, folks, is how you spend Easter Sunday morning (even if we are all adults).
