My Australian experience: Adelaide
So, after another FLIGHT between cities in the same country, I arrived in Adelaide, greeted by my lovely friend who I was to be staying with for the final few days of my two month adventure. In a real, lush, clean, house which lacked bed bugs and 20 dorm rooms, perfect! Six lovely people, two wicked dogs, and the most adorable baby. Witnessing how actual Australian everyday life is...paradise! First stop, the beach. Yet another beautiful one, crystal clear blue sea, golden sand and the heat to go with it! Nothing better than a nice cold cider on a day like this! Followed by a barbie in true AUSSIE spirit!
The following day began with a dog walk in search of Kangaroos and possibly koalas! None to be seen...THIS TIME... But beautiful views. We then headed to the garden if unearthly delight, and into the city. Perfect weather for another cider, mooching around and a wannabe Harry Houdini street performer who didn't half love to blab on! On the way home the views were fantastic, and I found that Adelaide, the cbd, looks as though it really had just been plonked into the picture! That evening came a shock to my stomach, when we went to a pizza party and I are my weight and a half in pure pizza (and a teeny but of cheesecake at the end- couldn't resist!)
Due to our failed attempt the previous day and my desperate need (being a complete tourist) to see a wild koala, I was taken on a dog walk to Belair National Park. Sadly, the koalas had decided to hide from me, I genuinely think they knew I was coming, however what we saw made up For it. Walking with two rather large dogs and one just went. Pulling on the lead and reading for the bushes. My friend was pulling him back wondering what on earth it was he was pulling for, when the most ginormous kangaroo stood up from behind the bushes. No word of a lie, it took our eyes about five seconds to adjust before we realised it was not a man dressed up! This thing had pecks, abs, the lot! And just stared as if to say "yes?! You're problem?!" The days delights continued when we headed to the famous south Australian winery's! What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon? In the sun, with good company, good wine, and spectacular views!
My final two days were spent on the beach. Both beautiful beaches (I don't think you can actually find a bad beach in Oz!), and a perfect excuse to top up the tan before heading back to the ice age! A jump of the jetty, body board, almost drowning in waves and another typical AUSSIE BBQ later, and my time in Australia had come to an end. Mixed feelings in that I wanted to come home and see all my loved ones, but did not want to leave such a beautiful country and the friends i had made, and the old friends I had seen. If anybody asks me would I do it again, I think to myself what a stupid question. And if anybody for a second questions doing it themselves, I will be the first to physically push them onto that plane. It's an experience which I will take with me through life. Where I have learnt so much, enjoyed every minute, seen things I never thought I would see and built as a person, my confidence and knowledge. Despite the fact I was completely oozing with EXCITEMENT I was to see everyone back home, and that I couldn't move for good to Oz and leave everyone behind, it's the best thing I have ever done, and I will cherish the memories forever.
