My Australian experience : Surfers Paradise.
After a walk up and down the street, searching for our backpackers that claimed it was the closest to the beach, we dumped our bags and headed straight for the sand. So strange to look along the coast and just see skyscraper after skyscraper practically ON the beach. (Kind of what I expected though)
When we got back to our room after a pasta dinner mixed with Tomato pure instead of pasta sauce, simply because it was 10 cents cheaper and "every little helps" (IT WAS GROSS), we found a party in our room! A mix of Welsh and Irish crammed in, with their accents booming! We managed to squeeze in and get ready for the big night ahead...LADIES NIGHT! We thought there would be a catch, but we were wrong, it literally was FREE DRINKS ALL NIGHT! Champagne, vodka, anything you wanted. Bliss! We proper milked it and by 20 minutes in we were on drink number 5! That's the way you do it! BACKPACKER LIFE! It was a good night, and I honestly, hand in heart, did not spend a penny! Who's for bringing this to England!!!??!! ...The only downside to the night was that we were told there would be topless waiters, we were expecting the lifeguards from the beach, all we could see was girls in underwear, it's called 'LADIES night' ...WHERE WERE THE HOT MEN?!
Day two was spent recovering. We also learnt from our schoolboy error with the tomato paste and got proper pasta sauce for tonight's dinner (yes the same dinner two nights in a row but this is the life we currently lead, besides it was $2 in total- you just can't beat it!) Lunch tomorrow as well! (NOT JOKING) It was lush. I could have eaten it over and over. We chilled most of the night apart from the moment when we both looked at each other as if to say "FOOD?!" And went for a walk to find a cheap snack. Not that either of us wanted to spend two dollars, but belly bigger than stomach type situation. Luckily, the nearest Coles was too far away (because we are lazy) and so we did something that has never been done before, didn't waste a penny on more unneeded food!
After hearing about the serious floods at home, I felt pretty bad that the next day was bloody gorgeous (actually I didn't really) and to show how guilty I felt we spent the whole day on the beach, topping up the tan! Having been excited the whole day for our free (YES MORE FREE FOOD) BBQ, it finally arrived. Lush it was, and we milked it AGAIN (getting good at this 'make the most of freebees game), didn't care how greedy we looked! The only downside to the early start BBQ was that it meant we had to drink early (to get our free drinks of course) which meant the night was only going to go downhill from there! A few vodkas and two bottles of wine later, and the club crawl was well under way! Final stop an Irish pub, always a good thing....sign of a GOOD NIGHT! And to top it off even further, when heading out of the first pub we saw a true aboriginal playing his didgeridoo, yay Australia!
By the next morning we had got used to the accents and completely warmed to the girls in our room, they were hilarious! And after stealing (we were offered!) some grapes and a final farewell, we headed to BYRON BAY!
