My Australian experience: On the road, Townsville and Magnetic Island

Surprisingly enough, we made it to the 7am train from Cairns! Such a beautiful and relaxing journey too: comfy seats, inboard tv entertainment, a pack of chocolate biscuits (within budget) and the most amazing scenery, for 6 hours! Beautiful sunshine the whole way, and it did stay with us to greet us on our arrival at Townsville. A slight dip in the day when we found our walk to the hostel was about a billion miles long, in mid-day, blistering heat - HELL. But, we made it! Dropped bags off and straight to the beach! Followed by THE most delicious cocktail looking over the sea, can you think of a better way to spend a day?

Day two we hopped on the ferry over to magnetic island! Basically paradise. Full of beautiful bays, sun, sea and sand, and very little amount of civilisation, perfect! The walk from our base (ironic that our hostel was actually called 'Base') felt like we were literally walking through the desert with one shop every 2km!!! The hostel itself was the best yet, and we got a wad of freebees including a welcome cocktail, can't complain! After an afternoon of relaxing by the pool, looking out on the beautiful, blue sea, with picturesque mountains in the background, our free meal could not have come soon enough! And we savored every mouthful- LUSH!

Day 3 brought us another freebee- breakfast! And with another beautiful view, are you jealous yet? A bus ride to see the Koalas took us to a faulty ATM and a very expensive entrance fee, so we decided to head to the beach! Oh what a shame! Waiting for us there was a tube ( rubber dingy tied to back of speed boat)..."it's very bumpy out there girls but you'll be fine" (got to love the AUSSIE chill to every situation!) And we were off! So much fun and surprisingly didn't fall out! And then to soak up the sun and have a swim in the deep blue sea (AVOIDING JELLYFISH AT ALL COSTS!!) ...back to the backpackers (which was more like a hotel resort- very nice) for more sunning and a luscious drinky poos in the sunshine ! The perfect day. Next stop Airlie beach (with a night in Townsville on route) BRING ON THE BOAT PARTY!
